Professional Tool Reviews for Pros
Spyder has launched the Black Series reciprocating saw blades that the brand has designed to take on the toughest cutting applications. These aggressive and durable blades, Spyder claims, cut up to 3 times faster and 10 times longer than standard bi-metal blades.
Spyder has engineered the Black Series Reciprocating Saw Blades using an 8% cobalt blend that resists shattering and heat-related damage, powering through the most demanding demolition projects. The company touts these blades as best-suited for quickly tackling wood, nail-embedded wood, metal, and other materials.
We find the use of a cobalt blend in reciprocating saw blades intriguing. Cobalt resists heating up and it adds strength and rigidity. Manufacturers integrate cobalt into the best drill bits for metal. They last longer and hold an edge better. An 8% blend of Cobalt permeates the entire metal and we see this type of alloy in more expensive M42 cobalt drill bits.
We have a great interest in seeing how well these hold up against both bi-metal blade designs and newer carbide-tooth models.
Spyder’s Black Series reciprocating saw blades feature a variable tooth pitch. The design should provide a fast and clean cut through materials in various thicknesses. These blades come in a variety of TPI configurations. That includes 6, 10/14, and 18 TPI for demo, wood, thin, and thick metal accordingly. Spyder also makes these blades available in lengths of 6-, 9-, and 12-inches.
Given how many accessories have come to market recently, it appears Spyder is serious about growth. The company has slowly, but surely expanded its portfolio of Pro-targeted cutting and drilling accessories. We love competition, so the more we see, the more we like. These blades look to be a step in the right direction, and the use of an 8% cobalt blend has us very intrigued. We look forward to reviewing them as soon as possible.
You can pick up the 14-pc Spyder Black Series Reciprocating Saw Blades kit from Lowe’s. They come in 3- and 5-piece kits that range between $13.98 and $19.98. Spyder also has a 14-piece kit available for $29.98 at Lowe’s, which comes with a handy storage case.
