Professional Tool Reviews for Pros

It’s been a few years since the last generation of Milwaukee Red Helix cobalt drill bits launched, and we’ve really liked the experience since then. The Variable Helix design helps to keep the bits cool during use, the 135° split point makes solid contact that keeps the walking to a minimum, and they drill quickly. If it ain’t broke, why fix it?

Milwaukee is never content for “good enough” and they’re about to launch an updated version of the Red Helix cobalt bits. Here’s what we’ve learned about what’s on the horizon.

The next-gen Milwaukee Red Helix cobalt bits are still engineered to withstand the abuses of drilling in hard metal. And they still include the Variable Helix design that helps to reduce heat build-up by changing the angle of the fluting. What starts at an aggressive 35° helix angle varies along the flute and ends at 15°.

However, with the new crop of Red Helix bits, Milwaukee has added a couple pretty dramatic improvements. They still include the 135° split point tip for precision starts and less walking and now include a new Quad Edge Tip. This decreases the heat build-up even further and lets you drill even faster.

The updated Red Helix cobalt bits also include Milwaukee’s new Enhanced Tapered Web design. Essentially what this design does is improve and strengthen the core of the bit to increase the overall durability and life span of the bit.

The new and improved Milwaukee Red Helix cobalt drill bits will be available in sizes ranging from 1/16″ to 1/2″. Available in October 2019, the bits will be sold singly or in sets.
