With the series tied 2-2, the Boston Celtics and the Golden State Warriors are preparing to tip-off again Monday night in Game 5 of the NBA Finals.
The best-of-seven series returned to San Francisco for the game, where Duke Castiglione said the Celtics team practiced Sunday and discussed some of the things they need to adjust after a loss in Game 4:
One of those things is to use their size and strength.
They dominated the boards in Game 3 and they came out with a win. In Game 4, the Golden State Warriors, a much smaller and less athletic team, dominated the glass 55-42. The Warriors were also better with points in the paint 38-32. That can't happen in game five. No question that can't happen.
The Celtics also have to run their offense. Ime Udoka said prior to Game 5 that the Celtics should be up 3-1 in the series if they just ran their offense. What we saw in Game 4 was the Celtics had a 5-point lead and in that 4th quarter, the offense got stagnant. They almost played not to lose as we saw them play not to lose in Game seven of the Eastern Conference Finals against the Miami Heat.
Celtics co-owner: Playoffs slog prepared young team for NBA Finals
What happened is the Miami Heat almost came back and won that game. The Celtics hold on and win that game, but Golden State's a different team. They are going to kill you if you play not to lose. And that's what happened in Game 4.
Jayson Tatum, he's struggling in the series 28-82. He needs to be better.
A lot of it isn't mechanical. I know he's talking about playing on two feet and driving to the hoop with more authority, but a lot of it is mental right now.
Same thing with Jaylen Brown and some of these turnovers that we've seen. He's got to take a step back, relax a little bit more and slow the game down in their head.
Watch Steph Curry play. It's almost like he's playing with house money because he's won three championships. He's also 34 years old and he's had the experience.
With NBA Finals tied at 2, Celtics try to stop Stephen Curry
I think it's the Celtics trying a little bit too hard right now. You want to put your foot on the gas, but you also want to let the game come to you a little bit more.
If the Celtics do the things they've done well in the postseason and well from Jan. 23, on, they'll be okay in this because they are the better team. They just have to believe they're the better team and close it out.
Don't be surprised if they win Game 5 because they are 7-0 in these playoffs after a loss in 8-3 on the road in the postseason.
